Alesp Parliamentary Front debates the use of cannabis in veterinary medicine
Meeting will bring together experts to discuss advancements, clinical experiences, and regulation of cannabinoid use in animals

Public hearing will take place next Thursday, October 23, at 10 am
The São Paulo State Legislative Assembly (Alesp) will hold the 4th public hearing of the Medicinal Cannabis and Industrial Hemp Parliamentary Front on Thursday, October 23, at 10 am. The event, at the Franco Montoro auditorium, will focus on the use of Cannabis in veterinary medicine.
The Front is coordinated by State Deputy Caio França (PSB) and Vice-Coordinator Eduardo Suplicy (PT). The group has been promoting technical discussions on scientific advancements and therapeutic applications of Cannabis, with a focus on public policies, research, and regulation in the State of São Paulo.
"With each new hearing, we broaden our view of the potential of Cannabis in different health areas. Veterinary medicine is a field that is rapidly growing, with very promising results in the treatment of various animal diseases," highlights Deputy Caio França.
"It is essential for the government to keep pace with this progress and support research and initiatives that bring more safety, knowledge, and access," adds the Front's coordinator.
The public hearing is open to the public and will be broadcast live on TV Alesp (youtube.com/@AlespOficial).
Experts discuss Cannabis advancements in veterinary medicine
The meeting will bring together key figures in scientific research to discuss evidence, clinical experiences, and legal challenges of using cannabinoids in animals. Among the guests is Rodrigo Montezuma, a veterinarian, lawyer, and president of the Regional Council of Veterinary Medicine of the Federal District (CRMV-DF). Also participating is Kátia Ferraro, a veterinarian, president of the Endocannabinology Commission of CRMV-SP, and CEO of EquineCare.
Rogério Martins Amorim, a professor at FMVZ-Unesp Botucatu, is also part of the panel. He coordinates the Interdisciplinary Studies Nucleus on Cannabis (NEICANN) at Unesp and holds a postdoctoral degree in Cellular Therapy from the University of California (Davis, USA).
The hearing will also feature Caroline Campagnone, a veterinarian and master's student at UFRPE, who researches the use of cannabinoids in veterinary medicine. Campagnone is the director of Plantando Conhecimento and the Medicinal Cannabis Association AME-C, as well as the creator of the Cannaderno app.
Another highlight is Bruno Perozzo, a veterinarian and master's student in Pharmacology and Translational Medicine at FCM-Unicamp. He is part of the Veterinary Endocannabinology Technical Committee of CRMV-SP and is a co-creator of the discipline "Pharmacology and Toxicology of Cannabinoids."
The list of guests is completed by Ana Carolina Campedelli, founder and president of the INDICA Association (Inclusion, Diversity, and Cannabis for Animals). The organization promotes information and support in the field of veterinary Cannabis.
Call for amendments and broadcast
Applications for the parliamentary amendments tender of the Medicinal Cannabis and Industrial Hemp Parliamentary Front are open until October 31.
This year, the tender will allocate R$ 1.25 million to projects related to research, training, events, and services linked to the agendas. The registration form is available on the Front's official platform (http://www.fpcannabis.com.br/).
