The American Council of Cannabis Medicine (ACCM) announced on October 21st an initiative developed with the leading insurers and healthcare systems in the United States. The multifaceted program expands access to affordable and clinically oriented medical cannabis treatments for millions of Americans.
According to ACCM, the new partnerships with major insurers provide comprehensive medical cannabis benefits for individuals and businesses. The coverage is broad and tailored to the needs of patients, from individual policyholders to Fortune 500 employers.
"Expanding insurance coverage for medical cannabis is a vital step in making this therapeutic option accessible to more Americans," said Todd Houston, Senior Vice President of IronHealth, in a statement. "Through these partnerships with ACCM, patients now receive real support — financial and medical — for the wellness path they desire."
Focus on education, health, and expansion
Over 400 wellness associations and organizations are engaging their members with ACCM's "Elevated States" program. This is an educational and benefits platform that empowers individuals to explore the safe and legal use of medical cannabis on their wellness journey.
In the healthcare field, ACCM's Distinguished Physician Referral Network allows healthcare systems to refer patients to approved medical cannabis programs. The initiative expands access to treatment alternatives while ensuring compliance with Medicare and Medicaid.
"Our Distinguished Physician Referral Network offers hospitals and providers a private, patient-centered solution," said Dr. Michael Butler, Chairman of ACCM's National Medical Committee. "It enables healthcare systems to support patient care without compromising reimbursements."
"ACCM's partnership with EM2P2 ensures that the technical infrastructure powering this Network is reliable, scalable, compliant, and built for the future," said Gennaro Luce, CEO of EM2P2. "Together, we have created the digital backbone for a national medical cannabis platform that connects patients to the products and services they need."
