After a two-year wait to return to an in-person symposium, the Linda and Jack Gill Center for Biomolecular Science will host the Transformative Investigator Award event on September 14, 2022, at Indiana University in the USA. The award aims to showcase the five scientists distinguished for their contributions to neuroscience research. This year, the focus is on Cannabis. 

Professor Francisco Silveira Guimarães will be the only Brazilian among the distinguished scientists with collaborations from various institutions such as The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, University of Cagliari, and Harvard Medical School. He is affiliated with the Department of Pharmacology at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School (FMRP) of the University of São Paulo (USP).

Brazil is a reference in research on cannabidiol. Four professors from the Ribeirão Preto Medical School are among the top ten producers of studies in the field, with USP leading in scientific articles production on cannabidiol.

Professor Guimarães graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1981), holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from FMRP-USP, and is a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences. He has expertise in Pharmacology, focusing on Neuropsychopharmacology in studies involving nitric oxide, anxiety, glutamate, serotonin, cannabinoids, and stress.

The Gill Symposium 2022 will be held in person at Indiana University on September 14, 2022. Registrations will remain open until September 12, 2022, at 11:59 PM ET.
