Between the breeze of Maracanã and the vibration of cinema pulsating at UERJ, the International Cannabis Film Festival (FICC Rio 2025) reaches its last day this Friday, October 24, closing a week where art, politics, and freedom converged on the big screen.
It has been five days of exchanges, looks, and discoveries. And, as in any good movie, the ending promises to be memorable: the audience is invited to live a whole day of workshops, sessions, and music under the same spirit that guided the entire festival, that of seeing cannabis not only as a plant but as a symbol of culture, dialogue, and resistance.
Program for this Friday (10/24)
Location: COART UERJ / Cartola Auditorium
11am – Activist Cinema Workshop
With director João Amorim, the activity proposes a dive into the boundaries between art and social engagement. It is an invitation to reflect on the role of the camera as a tool for transformation — and the power of stories that arise from the streets, everyday life, and the plant.
2pm – Film Session
Un Respiro (Luis Paulo de la Fuente – Mexico, 1 min)
How much does my father's medicine cost? (Isabella Abreu – Brazil, 15 min)
Pepe's Dreams (Pablo Trobo – Uruguay, 86 min)
4:30pm – Film Session
This is good stuff! (Rafael Fernando Oliveira – Brazil, 5 min)
From end to end: it's just a plant (Matias Maxx – Brazil, 21 min)
Lonely People – Never trust anyone (Elir – Brazil, 72 min)
6:30pm – Closing Ceremony and Awards
The films that marked this edition will be honored, celebrating the diverse perspectives that crossed the borders of 15 countries.
7pm – Pocket Show and DJ Set
A musical break to dance and breathe the atmosphere of celebration — after all, art is also movement.
8pm – Procession of the Planta na Mente block
Because resistance is also done in the rhythm of drums and a smile on the face.
9pm – Closing Party (Praça do Maracanã)
The festival bids farewell to the sound of reggae with Selektah Nubeat, Lion Dornelas, Brum Dub, and Lotus, in a night that promises to be more than a party: a dancing manifesto for culture, freedom, and the right to exist in all forms.
An end that is a beginning
FICC Rio ends but leaves roots, on screens, in debates, and in the minds of those who understood that cinema and cannabis, together, can sow new narratives.
In times of walls and misinformation, the festival stands as an open field of ideas, where art is a pretext to look at the world with more empathy and less prejudice.
And if every good story deserves a sequel, the message is simple: the last day is today, and there is still time to live this unique experience in the heart of Rio de Janeiro.
