The cannabis leaf, known for its characteristic and widely recognized shape, is one of the most emblematic and functional parts of the plant. Responsible for vital processes such as photosynthesis and transpiration, the leaf plays a crucial role in the healthy development of cannabis, channeling light energy through chlorophyll to turn what is acquired into fuel for the growth of the entire plant.

Cannabis leaves are composed of several distinct parts. The petiole connects the stem to the leaf, while the central axis, called the rachis, is the point from which the leaflets emerge - small leaves that give cannabis its iconic appearance. These leaflets can vary in number depending on the plant variety: indicas generally have 7 leaflets, sativas 9, and the less known ruderalis have 5 leaflets.

The cannabis plant has two main types of leaves: fan leaves and sugar leaves. Fan leaves are large, responsible for light capture, but with few trichomes (the resin-producing glands). Sugar leaves are smaller and are close to the flowers, loaded with trichomes and usually trimmed after harvest.

Although it is possible to smoke cannabis leaves, this practice is not common, as the plant's flowers, with a higher concentration of THC, are preferred by users. However, cannabis leaves can be utilized in various ways, as long as they are grown organically and free of pesticides. They can be turned into nutrient-rich green juices, vitamins, minerals, and cannabinoids, or used to make cannabis butter, infused oils, salads, teas, and even stews.

The uses of cannabis leaves go beyond recreational consumption, showing their nutritional and therapeutic potential. Whether to incorporate into recipes or explore new infusion methods, these leaves offer a wide range of possibilities, promoting sustainability and the full utilization of the plant.
