The Parliamentary Front for Medicinal Cannabis and Industrial Hemp of the São Paulo State Legislative Assembly (Alesp) will announce, next Tuesday (9), the list of the eight selected projects. The initiative is led by the mandates of state deputies Caio França (PSB) and Eduardo Suplicy (PT).

The 3rd Amendment Grant will allocate a total of R$ 1.25 million for funding actions related to the sector. The official announcement will take place at 10 am during a itinerant meeting at the CIVI-CO hub headquarters in São Paulo, with online broadcast.

Profile of selected medical cannabis projects

Among the proposals chosen to receive the funds are two third sector entities, two municipal governments, and one state administration agency. The list also includes three public universities, two state and one federal.

The objective of the grant is to promote initiatives in the areas of health, education, applied research, and development of public policies. The main focus is on expanding access to medical cannabis therapy in the Unified Health System (SUS).

Record number of entries for medical cannabis funding

This year's selection process registered 48 submitted projects, the highest number since the program's inception. The participants included 19 proposals from third sector entities and 16 from public universities such as USP, Unicamp, Unesp, Unifesp, and UFSCar.

Also participating were 10 municipalities and three state agencies. Among them are renowned institutions such as the Heart Institute (InCor) and the Institute of Technological Research (IPT).

Deputy Caio França, coordinator of the Parliamentary Front, commented on the level of adherence to the medical cannabis grant. “We conclude this third edition with a very significant result, which shows the maturity and strength of the initiatives developed in the state of São Paulo,” he said.

According to the parliamentarian, the numbers attest to the seriousness of the sector. “The record number of entries reveals that there is serious research, qualified innovation, and concrete projects emerging in all regions,” França pointed out.

França also highlighted the strategic allocation of resources for medical cannabis. “Our commitment is to ensure that this effort continues to advance, expanding access to therapy and strengthening the development of responsible public policies, based on evidence and social interest,” he concluded.

The meeting on Tuesday marks the end of the activities of the Parliamentary Front for the year. For institutions not selected in this phase, the organization announced a change in the usual schedule due to the electoral calendar.

The 2026 grant will be brought forward, with a launch scheduled for the first half of next year. The final list of winners of this edition will be published on the official website of the Parliamentary Front shortly after the in-person announcement.
