In a move that could strengthen the commercial relationship of cannabis between Brazil and Colombia, ProColombia — the official foreign trade promotion agency — announced that it may intervene directly to expand business opportunities in the medical and industrial cannabis sector in the Brazilian market

Confirmation came from Luis Carlos Velásquez, export advisor of the entity, in an exclusive interview with Sechat, straight from Bogotá.

Immediate action against obstacles

According to Velásquez, ProColombia will act as an intermediary between companies and the Colombian government. The first step will be to open a dialogue with the National Narcotics Fund, presenting the difficulties reported by exporters.

“From ProColombia, we manage an interlocution with different State entities. We will approach with the aim of conveying the concerns that Colombian companies have about some inconveniences that have arisen in exports to Brazil,” he stated.

Brazil: a key market in the region

ProColombia reinforced its confidence in the Colombian cannabis industry, supported by the agency since its early stages, about eight years ago.

Brazil is seen as one of the pillars of the international strategy, alongside markets such as Australia, Germany, and Switzerland. “The Brazilian market is undoubtedly becoming increasingly important for the sector in the country,” Velásquez emphasized.

From Bogotá to the Cannabis Fair

ProColombia can help expand the country's presence in the Brazilian ecosystem. Velásquez mentioned the Cannabis Fair, considered by the agency as the most relevant fair in the sector in Latin America.

Colombian participation is already being evaluated. The idea is to facilitate, soon, exploratory missions or even an institutional stand, offering a high-level showcase for companies looking to expand their presence in Brazil.
