O relógio da cannabis: Quanto tempo leva para os comestíveis fazerem efeito

The dosage of cannabis edibles is known to be a complicated matter. Each person's body has its own chemistry, and several other factors contribute to the intensity of the effects of edibles.

Two people may react differently to the same dose of an edible; for example, if two people eat a 5 mg gummy of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), one may show a high psychic effect while the other may feel almost nothing.

There are several factors that influence how long edibles take to take effect. Some of these factors include:

  • Type of edible: Foods like gummies, baked goods, and beverages are digested in the stomach and liver, which typically takes 45 to 60 minutes for effects to appear. Some edibles, like lozenges and lollipops, are absorbed sublingually (under the tongue), and effects can occur in just a few minutes, as the cannabis compounds are absorbed directly into the bloodstream.

  • Dosage: Edibles with higher doses, such as 10 mg or more, may take effect more quickly than those with lower doses.

  • Tolerance: The amount of cannabis you consume regularly affects the potency of edibles for you. If you smoke every day and have a high tolerance, 5 mg of edibles may not feel very strong. On the other hand, if you rarely consume and have a low tolerance, 5 mg may be quite intense.

  • Body weight and metabolism: The speed at which your body processes and metabolizes food and edibles affects how long it takes for them to take effect, how long they last, and how strong the effects are.

If you want the effects of edibles to start more quickly, here are some options:

  • Sublinguals: Try tinctures, lozenges, lollipops, or any other edible that is absorbed sublingually. THC, for example, is absorbed more quickly under the tongue, and effects begin in just a few minutes.

  • Empty stomach: The amount of food you have in your stomach can affect how quickly an edible takes effect. Consuming edibles on an empty stomach may lead to faster effects. However, make sure to have some snacks nearby when the effects start.

  • Tolerance break: Taking a break from cannabis consumption for a day or two before consuming an edible can make the effects faster and more intense.
