Former boxer Mike Tyson believes that 'good news' about the rescheduling of marijuana will soon be announced by the United States government. The statement was made during an appearance on The Katie Miller Podcast, hosted by the wife of former Donald Trump advisor, Stephen Miller.

Tyson, who is now a businessman in the sector with his brand Tyson 2.0, emphasized that cannabis should not be treated as a dangerous drug in Schedule I, but rather recognized as medicinal.

He stated that many politicians still show reluctance to support the change, despite growing popular support and scientific evidence. During the program, the former champion mistakenly claimed that the substance had already been moved to Schedule III, but corrected himself, emphasizing that he is still awaiting an official decision.

Expected impacts of the change

If confirmed, the reclassification of cannabis would reduce barriers to medical research, allow companies in the sector to use federal tax deductions, and pave the way for a more balanced regulatory treatment. Currently, the plant remains listed in the Controlled Substances Act alongside substances like heroin, which restricts its medicinal use at the federal level.

Tyson also advocated for athletes using marijuana, stating that it can help with relaxation and even improve performance, as well as considering it safer than alcohol. He reiterated that the topic has been discussed in meetings with members of the Trump administration, although he has not directly addressed the issue with the president. In parallel, he continues to work with celebrities and athletes to push for reclassification and legalization of the plant at the federal level.

Political and social debate

The rescheduling process divides opinions in the American political scene. While figures like former Secretary Ben Carson have spoken out against it, citing risks of increased crime, other Trump allies, such as Kellyanne Conway, are said to support the change. Recent opinion polls show that American society is divided, with a significant portion of the population maintaining a neutral stance on the impacts of legalization.

For Tyson, however, the path is clear: cannabis should be recognized for its therapeutic potential and regulated in a way that brings social, economic, and public health benefits.
