"It's like they become themselves again, and that is priceless." The emotional statement by veterinarian Camilla Dourisboure, a specialist in Veterinary Homeopathy with over six years of experience working with small and exotic animals in the city of Campo Grande (MS), reflects the impact of using medicinal cannabis in the treatment of companion animals.

The data reinforces what is already observed in clinics and associations throughout the country: the veterinary sector reached the milestone of 7,056 treatments in 2025, according to the National Panorama of the Associative Sector of Medicinal Cannabis, released by the Multidisciplinary Association for Support of Research and Studies on Medicinal Cannabis (AMAME).

More than 7,000 pet treatments

The survey highlights the advancement of veterinary medicine in the use of cannabis, a segment that was relatively unexplored in Brazil until recently. The data of over seven thousand treatments indicates that more and more pet owners are seeking this therapy as an alternative in the face of challenging conditions, especially in animals that do not respond well to conventional treatments.

For Dr. Camilla, the most frequent cases involve dogs and cats, but there are also good results with animals like rabbits and guinea pigs. "One case that stood out to me was Clovis, a very special cat suffering from severe and refractory stomatitis to different treatments. With the introduction of medicinal cannabis, he showed significant improvement and was able to stabilize his condition," she recounted.

Well-being that transforms routines

The improvement observed goes beyond physical health. Many animals facing seizures, chronic pain, or debilitating conditions can improve their eating habits, become more active, and even regain behaviors they had lost. "It is extremely rewarding! Monitoring the clinical evolution of these patients and seeing how much they gain in quality of life is exciting," Camilla stated.

This transformation directly impacts families. Relieving pets' suffering generates positive effects on owners, who begin to experience moments of more tranquility and connection with their pets.

Strengthened bond between pets and families

In addition to clinical benefits, medicinal cannabis has an effect that goes beyond the clinic: strengthening the bond between owners and their animals. "The impact goes far beyond the patient. When the animal improves, the whole family feels this transformation. Seeing the animal comfortable, with less pain and a better quality of life, allows the relationship to be fully lived again," Camilla concluded.
