The São Joaquim de Bicas City Hall, in Minas Gerais, published a bidding notice for the price registration aimed at the acquisition of medicinal cannabis-based medication, intended for the treatment of a patient diagnosed with Nance-Horan Syndrome, a rare genetic condition characterized by ocular, dental alterations, and intellectual deficit.

The bidding will be conducted in the electronic bidding modality, under the number 10/2026, based on Law No. 14.133/2021, which establishes the new legal framework for bidding and administrative contracts in Brazil. The Municipal Health Department is the requesting unit of the process, reinforcing the assistive and therapeutic nature of the initiative.

According to official information, the bidding notice was published on February 6, 2026. The deadline for submitting proposals, as well as the opening of the public session, is scheduled for February 20, 2026, at 9:30 AM. The status of the process is listed as “in progress”.

The initiative highlights the gradual advancement of medicinal cannabis within public health policies, especially in cases of rare diseases, where conventional therapies do not always provide satisfactory clinical responses. In Brazil, the use of cannabis-based products is regulated by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and has been made possible, mainly through specific authorizations, administrative actions, and judicial decisions.

Experts assess that the adoption of bidding processes for the acquisition of these medications represents an important step towards the institutionalization of medicinal cannabis in the Unified Health System (SUS), in addition to expanding the debate on access, cost, legal security, and standardization of supply in the public sector.
