Cannabis Stocks Soar in August with Significant Gains in the Market

Indexes recorded significant gains, with highlights including Tilray, Village Farms, and Trulieve

Cannabis stocks from the Global Cannabis Stock Index surged 116.4% in August, rising from 6.97 to 15.08 points. Year-to-date, the index shows an increase of 80.4%, compared to 8.36 points at the beginning of the year. The strongest performer of the month was Verano Holdings (OTC: VRNOF | CSE: VRNO), skyrocketing by 200.3%. On the other hand, the weakest performer was Jushi Holdings (OTC: JUSHF | CSE: JUSH), with a 34.3% increase.

In September, the index will welcome two new members: Ascend Holdings (OTC: AAWH | CSE: AAWH.U) and Planet 13 (OTC: PLNH | CSE: PLTH).

 

Cannabis Ancillary Index Grows by 21.9%

 

Cannabis ancillary assets saw a 21.9% increase in August, with the index rising from 11.02 to 13.43 points. However, the year-to-date change shows a decrease of 2.5%, dropping from 13.77 to current levels.

Highlights include:

- GrowGeneration (NASDAQ: GRWG) was the strongest performer, rising by 81.8%;

- Scotts Miracle-Gro (NYSE: SMG) declined by 7.2%, being the weakest in the group;

- In September, NewLake Capital (OTC: NLCP) will rejoin the index.

 

Canadian LPs Advance by 31.8%

 

The Canadian Cannabis LP Index surged by 31.8% in August, going from 56.25 to 74.16 points. Year-to-date, the increase is 48%, compared to 50.11 points at the beginning of 2025. The most notable performer was Tilray Brands (NASDAQ: TLRY | TSX: TLRY), soaring by 139.2%. Conversely, Adastra Holdings (CSE: XTRX) was the weakest, with a 30.6% decline.

 

Global Cannabis Stock Index Accumulates Gains

 

The Global Cannabis Stock Index, currently with 23 members, rose by 12.5% in 2025 through August. In the 3rd quarter, the increase reached 54.2%. Nevertheless, since the peak in February 2021, the index has accumulated a 91.6% decline from the all-time high of 92.48 points.

Top August Gains

- Tilray Brands (NASDAQ: TLRY | TSX: TLRY): +137.6%;

- Village Farms (NASDAQ: VFF): +130.3%;

- Trulieve (OTC: TCNNF | CSE: TRUL): +102.3%.

Year-to-date, TLRY shows a slight increase, VFF has a significant advance, and TCNNF totals 69.8%.

Top August Declines

- iPower (NASDAQ: IPW): -25.1%;

- Cannabis IM (NASDAQ: IMCC): -11.5%;

- Scotts Miracle-Gro (NYSE: SMG): -2.3%.

All three stocks have year-to-date losses, with IPW notably experiencing a significant decline.
