The state of Illinois, in the United States, released an update this week on legalized cannabis sales, with the latest data covering the end of 2025 and showing changes in the growth pace of the sector.
According to the website News Cannabis Ventures, the new publication reflects adjustments in the information collection system and points to significant variations in sales performance for both adult use and the medicinal program.
Adult Sales Show Modest Growth and Annual Decline
According to the report, cannabis sales for adult use in Illinois reached $116.6 million in December 2025, with a sequential growth of 5.6% compared to November, which equates to a 2.2% increase on a daily basis. However, year-over-year, there was a decline of 23.9%, representing a slight improvement compared to the 26.1% drop observed in November.
For the year-to-date, total sales for adult use in 2025 amounted to $1.51 billion, down from $1.72 billion in 2024 and also lower than the total recorded in 2022.
The report highlights that these figures were updated after the state conducted a review of historical data, including the transition to the Metrc tracking system, which collects more accurate information on discounted prices and promotions.
Medicinal Market Data Remains Without Recent Update
According to the publication, the state had not released more recent figures for the medicinal cannabis segment for some time, but the latest available numbers, referring to April 2025, indicate that sales in this segment fell 1.6% compared to the previous month, totaling $19.7 million, and recorded a decline of 13.2% compared to the previous year.
