The capital of Alagoas will be the stage for a free Open Class on medical cannabis. The event "Medical Cannabis and the Future of Health: From Science to Multidisciplinary Practice" aims to train prescribers and healthcare professionals ethically, scientifically, and legally on the therapeutic use of medical cannabis in Alagoas.
The launch event of the CapacitaCannabis brand, a pioneering formative journey, will take place at the Auditorium of the State University of Health Sciences of Alagoas (Uncisal), in Maceió. The event, starting at 9 am on Friday (07), will bring together students, healthcare professionals, public managers, healthcare lawyers, and patient association representatives.
"CapacitaCannabis emerges as a response to the need for technical training in a field supported by laws and scientific evidence, yet still lacking institutional preparation," highlights Raíza Carnaúba Quintela, lawyer and legal coordinator of the Liamba Medicinal Plants Association, the entity responsible for the event.
She emphasizes that the initiative fulfills objectives of state legislation. "The event fulfills one of the objectives of State Law No. 8,754/22, which is to promote access to information and foster research and professional training on medical cannabis in Alagoas," Quintela adds.
Science, law, and practice with medical cannabis
The event will address the regulatory, scientific, and legal aspects of medical cannabis treatment. The Anvisa regulations will be discussed, including RDC No. 327/2019 and RDC No. 660/2022. These resolutions regulate the production, import, and prescription of plant-based products.
Main topics include the fundamentals of endocannabinology and its clinical applications. The discussion will also cover administration routes and therapeutic safety.
The agenda includes the legality of medical prescription and the prescriber's ethical and civil responsibilities. Additionally, the different patient access routes will be detailed: importation, supply by the SUS, associative use, and individual cultivation authorized by preventive habeas corpus.
"Our goal is to combine science, ethics, and legal security. We want healthcare professionals to have clarity on what they can, how they can, and why they should prescribe safely," explains Letícia Silva, pharmacist and technical director of Liamba.
