The State University of Londrina (UEL) formalized a new partnership for studies, while the State University of Maringá (UEM) hosted the largest state event on the topic, reinforcing the academic commitment to the agenda.

On September 18, UEL, through its Práxis Itinerante Extension Program, signed a Commitment Agreement with the Maria Flor Cannabis Association. The agreement aims to promote studies and discussions to combat prejudice around the medicinal use of cannabis.

As the first result of the partnership, a formative course on the endocannabinoid system is scheduled for December, open to the academic community and the general public.

This approach between UEL and civil associations began in 2022, with the signing of the first agreement with the Cura em Flor Association. The collaboration has already resulted in online events, such as the "Quarta Canábica," and inspired master's research focused on cannabis associativism.

The public debate was expanded in 2023, when UEL hosted a discussion on the Pétala Law (Law 21,364/2023) with the presence of the author, State Deputy Goura Nataraj. The legislation aims to facilitate access to cannabis-based medications in the state.

UEM Gathers Experts at Forum

The academic movement culminated on October 9 and 10 with the 1st UEM Cannabis Symposium and the 4th Paranaense Cannabis Forum. Hosted for the first time at a public university, the event brought together over 600 participants to discuss the scientific, therapeutic, and regulatory advances of the plant.

Dr. Jackeline Barbosa, president of the Brazilian Medical Association of Endocannabinology, delivered the opening keynote, highlighting scientific advancements in the field. The plenaries resulted in proposals such as the development of a new state bill and the inclusion of the topic in university curricula.

Looking ahead, the next steps have already been announced. The 5th Paranaense Cannabis Forum is scheduled for 2026 at the State University of West Paraná (Unioeste) in Toledo.

Additionally, in April 2026, Curitiba will host the "Cannabis is a Right" event. The initiative will seek to integrate the debate into the justice system, with the participation of the Public Defender's Office, Public Prosecutor's Office, OAB, and other institutions.
