Regulatory authorities in Oregon (US) have issued a recall of hemp-based products after finding that several pre-rolls, ready-to-smoke hemp flower cigarettes, contained levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) much higher than indicated on the packaging, potentially causing unintended intoxication in consumers.

The Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC), the agency responsible for overseeing alcoholic beverages and cannabis products in the state, ordered the withdrawal from the market of batches distributed by Simply Sol LLC after receiving at least one consumer complaint reporting feeling 'high' after smoking the product, something that should not happen with an item classified as hemp.

The affected products include different varieties such as Blood Orange, Cornucopia, Lemongrass, Piña, and Pink Panther, available in both six-pack boxes and individual tubes. To identify the items involved in the recall, the agency stated that all products have the same production date printed on the packaging (09/05/2025).

Risks and Recommendations

The OLCC warned that products with higher THC levels than allowed may cause unexpected psychoactive effects, such as intense euphoria, anxiety, or confusion, especially in individuals seeking the traditional therapeutic effects of hemp without altering their mental state. Therefore, authorities urge consumers who purchased the pre-rolls to destroy the affected items instead of consuming them.

According to Cañamo, there is currently no formal return or refund system in place, which may require customers to seek guidance directly from the retailers where they bought the products.

The commission is utilizing the Cannabis Tracking System (CTS), a state tracking system, to locate stocks and instruct licensed stores to immediately halt the sale and distribution of the implicated items.
