The Brazilian medicinal cannabis market has an exponential growth potential, with the capacity to reach R$ 9.5 billion and serve up to 7 million patients. The projection was highlighted by Maria Eugênia Riscala, CEO and co-founder of Kaya Mind, during the 4th Brazilian Medicinal Cannabis Congress.

Currently, the national market is experiencing a strong growth phase.

"We are talking about a market that already has 672,000 patients, generating over R$ 850 million per year," explains Riscala. The expectation is that, still in 2025, the sector will reach the first billion reais in revenue.

Despite the promising numbers, access to treatment remains the main obstacle to expansion. Riscala points out that the high cost hinders the popularization of therapy in the country. "In a country where a large part of the population still earns up to two minimum wages, talking about a R$ 600 treatment is unattainable," she states.

For the expert, the main opportunity to unlock this potential lies in "implementing broader regulation". According to her, a "fairer, broader legislation, encompassing more people, more companies, more entrepreneurs" is needed. The issue gains even more relevance with the regulation of cultivation, scheduled for the end of September.

Despite the challenges, the sentiment in the sector is optimistic. "I see everything that is happening with very good eyes," celebrates Riscala. "I think this congress is a milestone, and I hope that we can continue walking together in this market, seeing it grow further, bringing more people to undertake, more people to invest," she concludes.
