A scientific study is drawing attention from the medical community by reporting two cases of complete and lasting regression of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, an aggressive type of liver cancer, after the use of cannabis oil.

The patients, both elderly with unfavorable prognosis, had extensive tumors and limited therapeutic options. After the introduction of cannabis oil in clinical care, imaging tests began to show progressive reduction of the lesions, leading to complete disappearance of the tumor, maintained throughout the follow-up.

How was the use of cannabis oil

According to the study, cannabis oil was administered sublingually, with different concentrations of THC and CBD.

In one case, the patient used an oil with 10% THC and 5% CBD, while the other used a formulation with 15% THC and 2% CBD, in divided daily doses.

The authors emphasize that the observed response is considered rare in cases of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, a condition that usually has high mortality and few effective treatment options in late stages.

What Science Indicates So Far

Although the results are significant, the researchers emphasize that these are case reports, which means that generalized clinical efficacy cannot be asserted. Nevertheless, the study adds to preclinical evidence indicating that cannabinoids may act on mechanisms related to programmed cell death, inflammation, and tumor growth.

The study highlights the need for controlled clinical trials to investigate, in a safe and scientific manner, the potential role of cannabis as a complementary or adjunct therapy in cancer treatment.
