Guaratinguetá opens doors for the debate on medicinal cannabis in Special Session at the Chamber

May 15, 2025

The Municipal Chamber of Guaratinguetá will promote, on May 15, 2025 (Thursday), at 7 pm, a Special Session with the theme 'Medicinal Cannabis and the Right to Health'. The event will bring together authorities, experts, and representatives of civil society to discuss the challenges and paths of regulating cannabis for therapeutic purposes in Brazil.

The Session proposal was presented by Councilwoman Dr. Tatiana Antunes, based on a request from the Therapeutic Garden Association (AJT). The initiative was unanimously approved by the councilors and will be held under the responsibility of the Municipal Chamber, with the institutional support of AJT, as provided for in the internal regulations of the House.

Among the confirmed participants are the lawyer and master in Justice and Security, Emílio Figueiredo, and the federal deputy Saulo Pedroso (PSD/SP).

'Bringing this topic to the Legislature is giving voice to those who are often not heard. It is recognizing that there are therapeutic alternatives that have already made a difference in the lives of many people,' says Councilwoman Dr. Tatiana Antunes.

Open to the public, the Session aims to expand democratic dialogue, combat stigmas, promote qualified information, and strengthen public policies that ensure the right to health.

'Through it, we can start a deeper dialogue with healthcare professionals, researchers, associations, and the community in general, so that the municipality advances in public policies that guarantee access to integrative practices, such as medicinal cannabis, in a safe and guided manner,' highlights the councilwoman.

Dr. Tatiana intends to discuss forms of institutional support for associations that already offer this type of care, as well as seek strategies to empower the municipal health network. 'The most important thing is to maintain a commitment to listening and a human perspective, especially to families fighting for quality of life and dignity,' concludes.
