The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MCTI) is seeking to expand the production of medicinal cannabis in the semi-arid region of Paraíba. The initiative, led by the National Institute of the Semi-Arid (INSA), proposes an alliance between science, social inclusion, and the strengthening of public health in the region.
An important step was taken last Saturday, September 6, in a meeting at the headquarters of the Brazilian Center for Research and Studies of Medicinal Cannabis (CEBRAPCAM), in São José de Espinharas (PB). The meeting progressed in negotiations for the signing of a technical cooperation agreement between the institutions.

According to CEBRAPCAM, the partnership reinforces "the importance of applied research for the promotion of solutions adapted to the realities of the semi-arid territory". During the visit, INSA director, José Etham, highlighted in a note that "the proposal is to integrate science, technology, and inclusion, promoting solutions that dialogue with the reality of the Semi-Arid".
The formalization of the agreement can accelerate regulatory advancements, strengthening the national production of pharmaceutical inputs based on scientific evidence. Additionally, the project has the potential to serve as a model for other regions of the country with similar contexts, uniting research, public health, and territorial development.
Currently, CEBRAPCAM already operates with products based on medicinal cannabis, offering Full Spectrum CBD and THC oils in various concentrations (1.5%, 3%, 6%, and 9%). The institution also produces ointments and creams with formulations that combine cannabis oil, beeswax, and coconut oil.
