According to Minister Paulo Teixeira, Meta admitted to making a mistake by taking down at least 47 accounts related to medicinal cannabis on Instagram. The company reportedly informed the minister that the profiles did not violate their internal policies. Access to the accounts has already been restored, and the big tech company has not issued a formal apology for the incident. The apology to the Minister of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira, was said to have been made via a phone call and did not involve official documents.

According to the minister's office, Meta did not provide a clear explanation for the takedown of the profiles. Nevertheless, the company mobilized a team to analyze the situation of each of the affected medicinal cannabis accounts.

Clayton Medeiros, a lawyer specializing in cannabis and social media, classified Meta's action as "unusual", given the high number of removed profiles. "We have had other actions, but with 18, 20 accounts at most, I had never seen anything close to 50," commented the specialist.

In a video posted on Sunday (19), Teixeira had already stated that he was questioning Meta about the reasons for the profile takedowns. The affected profiles belong to associations that promote treatment with medicinal cannabis and activists who deal with the subject.

Portal Sechat contacted Meta and, up to the time of publication of this material, had not received a response.
