The advances, research, and scientific controversies regarding the potential benefits of treatment with medicinal cannabis for a broad spectrum of diseases have been countless and important in recent years.

Debating the pros and cons of using cannabinoids, deepening studies, and gathering evidence are challenges for this 2024, with the medical community playing a significant role, including exploring the potential in various specialties.

With this purpose, the city of São Paulo will host the 3rd edition of the Brazilian Medicinal Cannabis Congress (CBCM), from May 23 to 25, at Expo Center Norte. There will be over 24 hours of content in presentations by 100 professors recognized as references in medicinal cannabis in the national and international territories.

The agenda will cover a series of diseases already treated with medicinal cannabis, treatment details, case studies, methodology, and results.  The CBCM modules are divided into the following subjects:

Thursday, May 23, 2024

VetCannabis – The module deepens knowledge in veterinary medicine and cannabis, addressing legal issues, integration with Integrative Veterinary Medicine, and use in production animals, fostering debates on trends and clinical cases.

Business Cannabis – This module discusses global business opportunities with cannabis, focusing on Brazilian and Latin American perspectives, understanding legislative and regulatory challenges.

Friday, May 24, 2024

Medcannabis: Endocannabinoid System - This module explores the endocannabinoid system, its interaction with physiology, pharmacology, and applications, highlighting treatments with psychedelics and discussing clinical cases.

Agro & Tech Cannabis - The module addresses agricultural production from seed to final product, highlighting challenges of medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp, including traceability and extraction technology for innovation in the Brazilian market.

Saturday, May 25, 2024

Odonto Cannabis – The module dedicated to dentistry provides an overview of treatable dental diseases with cannabis, as well as promoting the discussion of clinical cases to facilitate diagnosis and safe prescription, aligned with dental regulations.

Interdisciplinary Program

The Congress program is comprehensive and covers various specialties. It brings topics such as mature women's health: the role of cannabis in hormonal health; adoption in the Unified Health System (SUS) for the treatment of syndromes;  the new frontiers of autism spectrum disorder (ASD, ADHD); innovation in the treatment of degenerative diseases; therapeutic use of cannabis in obesity;  advances in the treatment of refractory epilepsies. The preliminary program is available at www.congressocannabis.com.br.

The CBCM is the main scientific and professional congress in Latin America. For 2024, it expects an audience close to 1,200 congress participants, including doctors, researchers, entrepreneurs, health professionals, students, among others.

It will be a unique opportunity for updates on the latest scientific discoveries, exchange of experiences with renowned specialists from Brazil and abroad, as well as networking.

Other essential discussions are related to the bill (PL 5511/2023) to regulate medicinal use, under consideration in the National Congress. It would be a legal milestone for health use, establishing, among other aspects, rules for the cultivation and importation of cannabis and plant-based products for medicinal purposes, for human and veterinary use. The proposal awaits the appointment of a rapporteur in the Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Commission (CRA).

The author of the bill, Senator Mara Gabrilli, states that the idea is for the National Health Surveillance Agency, Anvisa, to authorize cultivation, oversee, and register medications produced with the plant.

It would also be up to Anvisa to allow home cultivation of the plant for personal use, upon medical prescription. And the government would be responsible for encouraging research and the development of plant-based medications; as well as promoting the rational use of these drugs, through the development of clinical protocols, educational actions, and monitoring of prescription and consumption.

Medical Cannabis Fair

The CBCM takes place alongside the Medical Cannabis Fair, the main professional and scientific fair in Latin America on the medicinal use of Cannabis. Congress participants who purchase tickets for the CBCM have free access for the 3 days of the fair, which also takes place at Expo Center Norte.
