42 medical cannabis companies already operating in Portugal

In 2023, new companies obtained licenses to operate in the medical cannabis sector in Portugal. According to Canna Reporter, the companies Sun Light Greens, Belvedere Pharma, GBE Pharma, Canneurox Portugal (or Avextra), and Schroll Flavours were added to the cultivation list.

In the industry, the new companies are Somaí, from Sociedade Agrícola Monte das Barrocas, Lda. (which already had a cultivation license in 2022), Bluestabil, Blossom Genetics, ISQ – Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade, and Technophage.

In retail, consumers will have more options with the entries of Jazz Pharmaceuticals France – Branch in Portugal, Alliance Healthcare, and Galaxiavertical.

The import and export sectors had the highest numbers of newly licensed companies. The companies Blossom Genetics, Canneurox Portugal (Avextra), Somaí, Sun Light Greens, Belvedere Pharma, GBE Pharma, Schroll Flavours, Galaxiavertical, and Jazz Pharmaceuticals France – Branch in Portugal entered the market.

The EU-GMP certification was granted to the companies Bluestabil – Stability Studies Services, Sociedade Agrícola Monte das Barrocas, Somaí, Cannprisma, ISQ – Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade, Technophage, and Blossom Genetics.

Cannabis companies no longer listed by Infarmed - National Authority of Medicines and Health Products of Portugal

According to the publication, Clever Leaves, which ceased operations in Portugal and lost all licenses, is no longer listed in Infarmed's licensed companies. In 2022, VF1883 was removed from the list of companies licensed by Infarmed.

The companies Empifarma-Pharmaceutical Products, Medlog – Pharmaceutical Logistics, and Cooprofar – Pharmacy Owners Cooperative lost or did not renew their trading license:
