Last week, actress Guta Stresser (49), who became widely known as the character Bebel from “A Grande Família,” revealed in an interview with Veja magazine that she uses CBD oil to treat Multiple Sclerosis.
The diagnosis was discovered in 2020 while Guta was participating in one of the seasons of the Dança dos Famosos segment during the Domingão do Faustão show. “Everything seemed normal until, during rehearsals, I would go through the choreography and, when I finished, I wouldn’t remember anything, nothing at all. I didn’t understand why; I’ve always had an easy time with these things. However, with effort, I managed to advance in the competition and didn’t pay much attention to those lapses,” the actress told Veja.
But it wasn’t just memory lapses that began to disrupt the actress's daily life. Guta also reported that she started to feel muscle pain, frequent tingling in her feet and hands, as well as severe migraines, mood swings, and ringing in her ears. After falling in her living room, she decided to see a doctor, and an MRI revealed the diagnosis: Multiple Sclerosis.

About MS
Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, autoimmune neurological disease. This means that the body's defense cells attack the central nervous system, causing brain and spinal cord lesions. The specific cause of the disease is still unknown. It is suspected that genetic factors and even viral infections may develop the disease.
Patients are generally young, especially women aged 20 to 40 years. Multiple Sclerosis has no cure and can manifest through various symptoms. These include: intense fatigue, depression, muscle weakness, balance and coordination issues, joint pain, bowel and bladder dysfunction, and visual disturbances. The Brazilian Association of Multiple Sclerosis (Abem) estimates that there are approximately 40,000 people with MS in Brazil and 2.8 million worldwide.

Guta's Progress
After the discovery of the disease and the initial shock, Guta understood that, although Multiple Sclerosis still has no cure, there are already advanced treatments for the condition that allow patients to lead normal lives. “In my mind, a movie played out where I became completely incapacitated,” the actress reported.
One of the substances that is being widely used in treatment is cannabis, which helps reduce some symptoms, such as spasticity, cognitive deficits, and fatigue. To Veja, the actress revealed that she currently uses CBD oil and that the results of the treatment have been very good. “More recently, I included CBD oil in my treatment, a cannabis derivative that is fortunately legalized and has proven to be promising. After the diagnosis, I had another MRI, and the results were very good, indicating a stable condition,” she concluded.
Guta is not the only actress diagnosed with the disease who uses cannabis-based medications to improve her quality of life. Claudia Rodrigues also has MS and revealed in 2020 that she tried cannabidiol through presenter Xuxa. The interpreter of the character from “A diarista” strongly advocates for the medicinal use of the plant on social media.
For Guta, the success of the treatment is a victory in the actress's life, allowing her to continue with her television projects: "I know I will have to live with multiple sclerosis for the rest of my life. May it be long and fulfilling. Each passing day feels like a small victory.”
