Being born is not easy, it's natural selection

In a column for Sechat, Fernando Paternostro reflects on the birth of the cannabis market and his insights on this sector in Brazil and worldwide.

Being born is not easy, it's natural selection

Column by Fernando Paternostro

"And those who were seeing dancing,
were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music"
Friedrich Nietzsche

The cannabis market was born. We can discuss its age, its origins, and where it's headed; but the fact is that this market exists. Like any being that has just been born, we can see that typical naivety, but also the evolutionary characteristics that have brought this being to where it is. And most importantly, what will ensure its survival in a harsh and competitive environment.

I have been in the Cannabis market since 2018, I have traveled to Canada, Colombia, Spain, and to all the U.S. states where Cannabis is legal. I have participated in investor groups, seen the pitches of American startups that have now exploded in the market there. I have seen the plantations, the extraction labs, the nurseries, the clones, the genetics companies, data companies, and the ancillary market.

But you know what I hadn't seen until now? The birth of this industry. And that is incomparable, incredible, and unique. Being able to participate in this vanguard brought me a reflection that goes beyond the professional point of view, it brought me a sense of responsibility.

Being part of the life of a being brings unconditional love, a sense of continuity, perspective, and fulfillment. Responsibility comes when you understand that everything we create is done by people like you and me, people with fears, longings, and desires. And by being part of this growth, you inevitably go through your own internal transformation, and it is this change that makes the growth of this market possible.

Working with Cannabis is allowing yourself to be different. It is being able to assume this identity of a walking metamorphosis, where everything is in constant evolution. Every day we learn and teach something new. It is understanding that the world will resist before adhering, and that until the moment when everyone looks objectively at Cannabis, we will continue to have to explain the simplicity of this plant so complex.

I am not a doctor, nor a healthcare professional. I am not a researcher, nor a scientist. I have a degree in Advertising and Marketing, with a postgraduate degree in innovation and technology; which at first glance may not make any sense in a highly regulated market, governed by lawyers and doctors. But it is in this lack of sense that I found myself, since all the time I need to reinvent and challenge myself, to be able to navigate within the regulations and always bring quality information to those who want to know more about Cannabis and how it can improve their quality of life and well-being.

I extend the invitation to you, reader. If you have made it this far, to this text, you can already consider yourself part of this birth as well, and feel this responsibility that I am commenting on. But do not feel the weight, just the lightness of knowing that we are all in the same boat called Human Being. And being human is knowing how to make mistakes, learn, and evolve. Cannabis is here to stay, and it counts on all of us to grow in a healthy way, with abundance and security; bringing health to everyone and an opportunity to improve your body, mind, and spirit.

So, shall we do this together?
