Brazil conducts 1st national mapping of researchers and institutions investigating Cannabis
Initiative aims to strengthen science, support public policies, and foster collaborations in the cannabis sector

Brazil is about to take a unique and strategic step towards advancing research on Cannabis: conducting the first national mapping of researchers, institutions, and lines of investigation dedicated to the plant. The initiative, led by a multi-institutional Working Group (Cannabis Scientific Regulation Working Group), aims to fill a historical gap in the national scientific scenario, systematizing fundamental information to guide regulatory decisions and public policies.Click here to participate:
With the support of over 30 universities and research centers, such as Embrapa, SBPC, UFABC, UFMG, Unicamp, UnB, among others, the mapping seeks to identify who is researching Cannabis in Brazil, where these researches are being conducted, and what their focuses are – whether in medicinal use, industrial applications, or cultivar development.
The expectation is that the results will support the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) and the Federal Government with updated and consistent data, as well as foster academic collaborations, optimize investments, influence funding calls, and strengthen the dialogue between science, society, and public management.
Support regulatory decisions – Providing ANVISA and the Federal Government with a precise and updated diagnosis of the national scientific scenario;
Foster collaborations – Building an integrated research network to enhance academic and institutional partnerships;
Optimize investments – Identifying knowledge gaps and prioritizing study lines with greater social and scientific impact;
Influence public policies – Generating evidence to support funding calls and regulations appropriate to the Brazilian reality;
Promote multisectoral dialogue – Connecting science, society, and public management for concrete advancements;
Strengthen the scientific community – Creating spaces for exchange and training for researchers
The mapping form is open until August 10 and takes less than five minutes to complete. Some questions are multiple choice, while others allow for more than one answer. Participation is essential to build an accurate picture of Cannabis research in the country and consolidate an integrated network among the different involved parties.
For researchers and institutions working or wishing to work in the field, this is an opportunity to engage in a strategic collaboration that can redefine the course of regulation and scientific production in Brazil.
