According to the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, vitiligo is a disease characterized by the loss of skin color, affecting more than 1 million Brazilians. The lesions are characterized by lighter patches compared to the rest of the body, varying in size and spread across the skin. The condition is caused by dysfunction in melanin formation, responsible for skin coloration, and can affect patients due to genetic predisposition and emotional issues.

This hypopigmentation condition is not contagious and does not cause major harm to the individual, but the most reported complaint is the impact on self-esteem that the condition causes, affecting the person's well-being and quality of life.

The disease, which can either stabilize in the size of the patches or progress depending on the case, is not curable. There are various treatments aimed at reducing the affected areas to improve skin appearance, and this is where CBD comes in as a strong ally in dermatological treatment.

A study conducted at Assiut University in Egypt demonstrated effectiveness in repigmenting vitiligo patients. Over a three-week period, 53 patients were divided into three groups, with only the last group receiving the ointment containing CBD cannabidiol, while the other two groups received alternative treatment. By the second week of treatment, the third group showed improvement, with a percentage of 16.7%.

The cannabinoid CBD is a chemical compound used as the active ingredient in topical ointments, which can have a higher concentration of the cannabinoid or be combined with other cannabinoids like THC without altering the results. The CBD compound, found in Cannabis sativa, is used in various products and treatments, but what many do not know is that in its isolated form, it does not have psychoactive effects.

The effectiveness of dermatological treatment can be attributed to the endocannabinoid receptors system in the human body. This system works to regulate physiological processes such as temperature, smells, and mood, for example. The compound naturally has anti-inflammatory properties, making it extremely attractive for patients with dermatological conditions.

It is worth noting that despite various evidence of successful treatment with CBD, the market still lacks more research and examples to achieve greater treatment accuracy. It should also be considered that any treatment requires medical guidance.
