A recent Brazilian study published in Frontiers revealed that the use of microdoses of cannabis may alleviate non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as cognitive and sleep disturbances. The research analyzed six patients who used low doses of cannabis oil and showed promising results in sleep quality. Additionally, the participants did not report adverse side effects, indicating a potentially favorable safety profile.

 

Small Doses, Big Effects

 

The study participants self-administered 0.5 mL of cannabis extract for 90 days. They were divided into two groups: one used the extract containing 250 micrograms of THC, and the other used the extract containing 1000 micrograms of THC, both with higher proportions of THC than CBD. The researchers observed that even in minimal amounts, THC showed therapeutic potential, positively impacting the patients' well-being without causing adverse effects.

Another relevant point was the patients' response to the microdoses. The researchers identified that the beneficial effects occurred without cognitive impairment or significant changes in the participants' perception. This suggests that small amounts of THC may be a viable option for managing non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's.

An Australian randomized clinical trial had also identified that THC can enhance patients' mood and sleep, providing a more comprehensive approach to treating the disease.
