The unique formulation of Cannalean's CBD can help treat dyslipidemia, without the side effects of statins.
Studies show that statins are effective in reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and even death from heart disease by 25% to 35%. However, they can cause serious side effects such as headaches, trouble sleeping, skin flushing, muscle aches, tenderness, weakness (myalgia), drowsiness, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, cramps or abdominal pain, bloating or gas, diarrhea, constipation, skin rashes; and occasionally, even more serious harm like memory loss, mental confusion, neuropathy, high blood sugar, or type 2 diabetes.
Dyslipidemia is a condition that affects about 50% of the population in which one or more of the serum lipid levels (LDL cholesterol and triglycerides) are abnormal. People suffering from such a condition face this same dilemma. Dyslipidemia accounts for nearly 20% of cerebrovascular diseases and 60% of ischemic heart diseases. Additionally, it can lead to increased organ adiposity, which can trigger systemic immune responses; however, the condition remains largely undiagnosed and less than 30% of the population receives treatment.

What if we could treat dyslipidemia with foods that help reduce lipids?
CannaLean has developed the CLC. It is a new formulation of cannabidiol (CBD) in a patented combination with a chitosan particle, both protected by patent, which has shown promising results in preclinical trials for the treatment of dyslipidemia.
CBD, a non-psychotropic component of cannabis, is a known immunomodulator that has been shown to improve metabolic functions. This could mitigate metabolic syndrome and, consequently, have an effect on serum lipid levels. Chitosan is a biocompatible, non-toxic, and non-immunogenic compound that specifically binds to the non-polar part of bile acids in the intestine. It safely and tolerably clears bile acids, avoiding their intestinal absorption and resulting in a favorable reduction in blood cholesterol levels. Chitosan is formulated with lecithin to produce a particle based on hydrophobic compounds from the combination of two well-known tolerable substances.
In combination with the chitosan particle, CBD's potential to significantly reduce blood lipid levels is increased. Chitosan acts as a solvent for CBD, leading to better interaction with intestinal cell membranes and higher absorption rates.
Both CBD and this chitosan particle are individually considered safe for human use in the United States and Europe. There was already some anecdotal evidence and several publications describing their ability to reduce lipids when used separately, but it has now been demonstrated in various in vivo models that combining them in a new complex formulation allows them to work synergistically. This means they are significantly more effective in reducing blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as well as reversing weight gain.

The Benefits and Dangers of Cannabis Edibles
Cannabis-based food products are increasingly popular and come in many different forms, from gummies to brownies. These foods typically contain one or both of the main active ingredients from the cannabis plant: CBD and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Food products containing only CBD have been found to help treat conditions like anxiety and chronic pain; and their popularity has increased as legislation governing cannabis use has become more lenient in various countries around the world. Unlike smoking marijuana, edible foods do not pose risks to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. The overall experience with foods is different: their effect may take hours to fully set in, but it can be more intense and last much longer than smoking or vaporizing cannabis.

Consumers who use cannabis edibles, however, often do not pay enough attention to the dosages indicated on the packaging; and, worse still, some users may take additional amounts while impatiently waiting for the full effect. This sometimes results in harmful side effects - and in extreme cases, a visit to the emergency room.
Producing, Testing, and Selling Responsibly
In 2020, the value of the edible cannabis market in the US was estimated at around $863.1 million. However, China, the world's second-largest economy, is expected to reach a projected market size of $2.1 billion by 2027, charting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.8% during the analysis period of 2020 to 2027. Among other notable geographic markets are Japan and Canada, each forecasted to grow by 19.9% and 19%, respectively, in the 2020-2027 period. Within Europe, Germany is projected to grow at a CAGR of approximately 15.6%.
