With the sanction of Law 17,618/23 in January of this year, which provides for the distribution of cannabis-based medicines by the Unified Health System (SUS) of São Paulo, the State Governor, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), along with 32 civil, medical, and political entities, are now studying the possibility of including three more diseases that can be covered by free treatment with the plant.

The first list includes Dravet syndrome, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis. In addition to these, other indications suggested by the group to be included in a second moment in the free distribution by SUS are: chronic pain, autism, and epilepsy.

According to the State Deputy of SP, Caio França (PSB), author of the Bill that originated the new Law, due to some setbacks with members of the working group that prevented the evaluation of criteria and therapeutic indication of chronic pain, it has not been included yet. However, there are indications that the disease may already appear in the next list.
