Study investigates reduction of agitation in patients with Alzheimer's

Study by the Jundiaí Medical School investigates effects of CBD and THC extract on agitation and cognitive symptoms of the disease.

The Jundiaí Medical School is conducting a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the use of medicinal cannabis extract in the treatment of patients with Alzheimer's Disease. The study analyzes a balanced formulation of CBD and THC, focusing primarily on reducing agitation — one of the most challenging symptoms of the condition.

In addition to agitation, the research also aims to identify possible impacts of the treatment on the cognitive, behavioral, and functional aspects of the participants. The initiative is part of the advancement of scientific investigations into the therapeutic potential of cannabis in neurodegenerative diseases, an area that has been gaining increasing attention in the academic and medical fields.

To facilitate the selection of participants, researchers have made available an interest and screening form. The goal is to identify candidates who meet the established clinical criteria, allowing them to be contacted for the next stages of the study.

Participation in the screening does not guarantee automatic inclusion in the trial, but it represents the first step in joining a research that may contribute to new therapeutic approaches in Alzheimer's treatment.

There are already 47 participants who have completed the study and another 15 under observation. The protocol lasts for 3 months, with monthly evaluations.

According to researcher Tereza Raquel, the focus is clear: to generate scientific evidence that expands the care possibilities in a disease that still has no cure.

Interested individuals or caregivers of patients can obtain more information or clarify doubts directly with the research team via email: tr.terezaraquel@gmail.com.

The expectation is that the results will help broaden the understanding of the use of medicinal cannabis in managing symptoms associated with the disease, offering new perspectives for patients and healthcare professionals.
