Coffee and Marijuana
The substances in the body responsible for the effects that marijuana has on the body are the same ones affected by caffeine – the main ingredient in coffee. In other words, the part of our body that is affected by coffee is the same as that affected by marijuana, but they produce seemingly opposite effects.
The chemical substances produced by the cells of the nervous system are called neurotransmitters. These substances guide the path of cells or neurons. Between one and another are the neurotransmitters. There are several types, with different functions in the body. They integrate a fine and complex system.
The study from the "Journal of Internal Medicine" showed that coffee affects the same neurotransmitters as marijuana. These neurotransmitters are related to the endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for regulating mood and physiology.
The endocannabinoid system is linked to body functions such as cognition, blood pressure, immunity, sleep, appetite, and energy. Therefore, when consumed, marijuana binds to neurotransmitters linked to the endocannabinoid system.
The research involved about 50 people subjected to the consumption of both substances. The result showed that coffee connects to the same neurotransmitters as marijuana.
