"From the sensation of death to the pleasure of living": Cannabis helps singer Piettro overcome depression and inspires new artistic work
Between prejudices, insomnia, and pains, the artist found in the plant a path to health and creativity

Piettro, singer and songwriter, relies on cannabis cookies for mental health improvement and quality of life
Using cannabis for about 15 years, the singer and songwriter Piettro, 30, carried until 2020 the idea that the plant was just a drug, with no therapeutic purpose. "I only knew prejudice and misinformation. The bad things," he recalls.
This view, combined with the weight of his profession, made him feel marginalized. "That's what they teach us". The change came at the end of 2024, with medical monitoring and a public health approach. Since then, the artist claims to have experienced significant improvements, especially with the use of cannabis oil. "I realized that I needed cannabis to live, to move from a sensation of death when waking up to the pleasure of living life".
The memories of sleepless nights and mornings marked by shortness of breath, knee pain, and discouragement are still alive, but only in memory. "I had never woken up and thought 'wow, what a beautiful day, I love living'. It's a very recent feeling", he confesses.
New horizons, new challenges

Even before realizing it, marijuana already influenced his artistic trajectory, which began in 2010. "The plant allows me to be minimally well to do my work, think about productions, play, and enter a state of contemplation," he says.
The search for self-knowledge also led him to experiences with ayahuasca about five years ago, and with psilocybin mushrooms in 2024. These experiences expanded his perception of plants as medicinal tools and reinforced his view on cannabis.
This process coincided with the move from Brasília, his hometown, to São Paulo — a period marked by depression and emotional crises. Already aware of the benefits of the plant for sleep and mood, the singer decided to explore new forms of consumption beyond smoking, which had been his only administration route.
"I'm a singer, I need a clean respiratory tract. Smoking hinders the hydration of the larynx and vocal cords", he explains. The solution came with alternatives: first the oil, then the cannabis gummies, until he reached infused cookies. "It was love at first bite. In ten minutes, I already felt that good buzz," he recalls.
Today, Piettro dreams of having his own cannabis production. Although he still uses oils and infused foods from associations and importing companies, he is preparing to file a preventive habeas corpus that allows personal cultivation. "I want to do everything: from seed to cookie", he projects.
The consumption of infused cannabis brought significant improvements to mental health and, especially, to insomnia, as well as more energy in daily life. "My life is entering a place of functionality that it didn't have two years ago", he states.
Personal and professional life

The learning was not limited to him. In 2025, alongside his mother, he participated in the PopCann event in São Paulo. There, they discovered that she, diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome, could also benefit from the plant. "She has always been combative, full of energy. Now she is calmer, with better sleep and less irritability", he says. His father also recently joined, as well as other family members, friends, and even the housekeeper. "I realized that my use impacted my ecosystem," he observes.
Professionally, Piettro, who gained national prominence on the Canta Comigo program (Record) in 2023, is now preparing to release an album in 2026 inspired by cannabis and alternative therapies. "My work has always had disruptive themes, starting with sexual freedom. Now I want to include the cannabis lifestyle," he says.
For him, the plant needs to occupy space in art as a social agenda. "I want to be necessary within the cannabis movement, just as I have been within the LGBT agenda. We need to include cannabis in the artistic field."
With well-known songs like Rei da Cocada (2023), Body (2020), and Sientate (2021), the artist also uses his social media — where he has over 86 thousand followers — to talk about the plant. Among posts, participation in events, and content about cannabis culture, he seeks to contribute to a change in mentality.
"I want my art to help demystify cannabis and expand awareness of its potential in health and society", he concludes.
