After a long day of work, many young Americans are no longer raising a glass of wine or a beer mug to toast the end of the workday. Instead, they are opting for a can of cannabis-infused beverage.
A study by Drug Rehab USA revealed that one in three millennials and Generation Z workers prefer THC-infused drinks over alcohol to relax after work.
Generation Z and Millennials Lead the Change
The survey interviewed a thousand employed adults and showed that the trend is clear: the younger generations are driving this shift in habits. In total, 66% of Americans said they have tried alternatives to alcohol in the last six months, and 24% stated they have already partially replaced alcohol consumption with non-alcoholic or cannabis-based options.
Among the post-work relaxation rituals, 45% still turn to alcohol, 24% to nicotine, 20% to cannabis, and 16% to alternatives such as non-alcoholic drinks, non-alcoholic beers, or CBD.

A Redefinition of the “Post-Work Toast”
The study indicates that these new habits reflect a broader cultural shift. According to Drug Rehab USA, “while alcohol still dominates, the competition between nicotine and cannabis shows how habits are evolving across generations”.
More than a flavor choice, it is about rethinking the boundaries between work and rest. The findings also align with other recent research, which suggests that cannabis is not only replacing alcohol in leisure activities but also being studied as an ally in reducing excessive alcohol consumption and even in the treatment of alcohol use disorder.
