Medicinal cannabis market in Germany reaches new import record
Germany reached a historic milestone in the medicinal cannabis market by surpassing 200 tons imported in 2025. Data released by BfArM indicate that the country imported 201,094 kg of flowers in the period — almost triple the 72,706 kg recorded in 2024.
The growth was consistent throughout the year, with volumes increasing from 37,686 kg in the first quarter to a peak of 59,076 kg in the third, followed by a slight decline in the last quarter.
Canada remains the main supplier, responsible for 93,006 kg — about 46% of the total. Portugal comes in second, exporting 55,164 kg.
According to industry agents, the concentration of wholesale licenses puts pressure on prices, creating distortions in the market and making it difficult for small producers to sustain.
Among emerging markets, North Macedonia is gaining prominence. The country tripled its exports, reaching 8,190 kg in 2025.
Other countries have also increased their presence in the German market, such as Australia, Malta, and Denmark, in addition to advances from Argentina, Colombia, and the United Kingdom.
The increasing demand from Germany reinforces Europe's strategic role in the global cannabis chain.
