If there's one thing Americans take seriously, it's the art of enjoying good drinks. But forget about the era of traditional spirits and basic beer: the new craze in the adult beverage market has less to do with tequila shots and more with bubbles, cans, and... cannabis? That's right, the game has changed.

A recent report from the Beverage Marketing Group revealed that consumers are increasingly interested in lighter, functional, and, why not, healthier options. Hard seltzers, ready-to-drink cocktails (the famous RTDs), alcoholic kombuchas, and beverages infused with CBD and THC are carving out a space that once belonged to traditional spirits.

Why the change?

Millennials and Gen Z are the main drivers of this alcoholic revolution. As we can see daily, this generation is more health-conscious and has been preferring drinks with lower alcohol content, fewer calories, and, to top it off, natural or functional ingredients. After all, who doesn't want to wake up without that massive hangover?

And, since the market has to cater to everyone, this new range of beverages was created to also meet this type of consumer. Names like White Claw, Truly, and High Noon lead the wave of hard seltzers, while brands like Cutwater Spirits and Jose Cuervo dominate the world of canned cocktails.

In the realm of cannabis beverages, Recess and Cann are at the forefront, offering drinks that promise relaxation without the side effects of a night filled with whisky shots.

Beverages that are winning over the USA

Hard seltzers: White Claw, Truly, High Noon, Bon V!V, Vizzy
Ready-to-drink cocktails (RTDs): Cutwater Spirits, Jose Cuervo RTD, Martini & Rossi RTD, Jack Daniel’s & Coca-Cola

Alcoholic kombucha: KYLA Kombucha Hard, Bambucha Hard Kombucha, Unity Vibration

Cannabis beverages: Recess, Cann, CANN/Doce Razão, Wynk
Ready-to-drink mocktails: Curious Elixirs, Seedlip, Bar None

Trends and Challenges

The popularity of alternative beverages also brings challenges. Regulations around CBD and THC still vary greatly among states, which can hinder the expansion of cannabis beverages. Additionally, brands need to find the perfect balance between taste, effect, and healthiness to remain competitive.

What is clear is that the 2025 consumer doesn't just want to drink, they want an experience. Whether it's a hard kombucha that aids digestion or a ready-to-drink mocktail that delivers the best drink without the alcohol, the industry is reinventing itself. And, apparently, with a lot of style (and some good bubbles in the glass).
