There is no denying that the global CBD skincare industry is growing. The cannabis derivative is being infused into all kinds of products, from moisturizers and primers to serums and even lip glosses! But what can CBD really do for your skin?

It is believed that cannabidiol - more commonly known as CBD - has a wide range of potential health benefits. The compound has been effective in treating some forms of epilepsy, as well as relieving anxiety. However, millions of people around the world are also adding CBD to their health and wellness routines.

Increasingly, the cannabinoid is becoming a staple compound in beauty and skincare products. CBD has been found to have several properties that can make it useful as a skincare ingredient. For example, evidence suggests it is an effective anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that can help combat acne and even prevent aging.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties

The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD have led to its use in topical creams to help treat skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. Beauty experts believe this quality can also help reduce inflammation on-site and decrease healing time.

It is thought that CBD, at the very least, has the ability to soothe the skin and protect it from irritations.

Julie Winter, COO and co-founder of CBD For Life, states that the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of CBD naturally help improve irritating skin conditions, including rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis.

Regulates Skin Oil Production

Most people suffer from strange breakouts, many of which are caused by an overproduction of sebum. Sebum is produced as a protective layer for the skin. However, sometimes pores can become clogged when too much sebum is produced. This is one of the causes of blemishes. CBD is believed to have the ability to regulate sebum production.

Additionally, the ingredients found in CBD also give it potential as an anti-aging ingredient. Dermatologists state that, being an antioxidant, it has the potential to protect the skin from free radicals. Antioxidants are also believed to help reduce the signs of aging.

It has been found that cannabidiol contains a wide variety of vitamins, which can benefit the condition of your skin.

Vitamins A, C, and E

Dermatologist Dr. Debra Jalimen explains that CBD is rich in vitamins A, C, and E. Vitamin A is known to stimulate the cells responsible for producing the tissue that keeps the skin healthy and firm. Vitamin C can stimulate collagen production. It is an essential nutrient to aid in the skin healing process.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that blocks free radicals in the body. As such, it can help aid anti-aging formulations.

Moreover, many products containing CBD also use hemp seed oil as a carrier for the extract. Hemp has its own great benefits and has been used in the beauty industry for decades.

Still, until more detailed studies are conducted, it is difficult to say for sure how effective CBD can be. However, there are many people supporting its potential as a non-toxic and gentle ingredient in beauty products. After all, just take a look at major beauty brands like Sephora and Boots increasing their beauty and skincare catalogs with CBD.

Therefore, the number of CBD skincare products on the market is constantly growing. Initially, researchers estimated that the CBD beauty market could be worth $910 million by 2024. As we begin to learn more about this ingredient and its effect on the skin, we may be surprised at how much it can benefit from the Cannabis plant.
