"If the cannabis sector joins this 'movement', the future will be promising," says Daniel Papa
Director of entrepreneurship at MEMP talks about entrepreneurship in Brazil, the new NIB program, and advancements in medicinal cannabis
“The ball is in Brazil's court,” says Daniel Papa, director of entrepreneurship at the Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Microenterprise, and Small Business (MEMP), when discussing the global entrepreneurship landscape.
"We have unique environmental factors, such as the green economy and renewable resources without dependence on fossil fuels, which are exclusive to our country. If the cannabis sector joins this 'movement', the future will be promising. The next five years will be very productive," adds Papa during an interview in the 18th episode of Deusa Cast.
According to the MEMP director in Brasília, the Nova Indústria Brasil program (NIB) has been dedicated to this discussion. The NIB aims to contribute to the national industry by 2033, focusing on sustainability and innovation. Among its goals are strengthening food chains and food security, increasing the production of medicines to bolster the Unified Health System (SUS), and promoting the green industry.
“We can be more progressive, break paradigms, and science needs to be the tool that drives us forward,” emphasizes Papa.
Medicinal Advancements
According to Daniel, São Paulo is a success story in the distribution of cannabis-based medicines through SUS, inspiring other states. Recently, Mato Grosso do Sul joined the list of states that have approved laws on the subject.
Regarding federal decisions, Papa highlights the importance of discussing the agenda in the Senate and Congress, stating that this approach is more democratic. "What I see is a government committed to providing subsidies and elevating the debate to a technical level. This is already a significant advancement; in the previous government, we didn't even have space to discuss. This is the time to revisit the topic," he concludes.
