Innovation and research drive the future of Health Meds in the medicinal cannabis market
Company conducts clinical study with Albert Einstein Hospital for migraine treatment

Health Meds, under the leadership of its new CEO, Eduardo Jorge, is charting an ambitious path in the market for cannabinoid-derived products, with strategies aimed at promoting the expansion and advancement of cannabis medicine. At the heart of this journey are investments in research, development, and continuing medical education, pillars that, according to Jorge, are essential to broaden therapeutic possibilities and innovate in a rapidly evolving sector.
Clinical Research and Development of New Formulations
Health Meds' bet on Research and Development (R&D) is the foundation for creating innovative and exclusive solutions. "The current regulation with sanitary authorization, RDC 327, restricts the pharmaceutical market to only one phytocannabinoid, in this case, cannabidiol, and its indications, the main one being epilepsy, for which we have had Epidiolex registered since 2018," explains Eduardo Jorge. To break these barriers, the company has been investing in formulations that combine rare cannabinoids with innovative indications. One example is the CAMTREA clinical study, a randomized double-blind trial, registered on clinicaltrial.gov, conducted in partnership with Albert Einstein Hospital, which seeks to explore the treatment of chronic migraine using a triple formulation of cannabigerol, cannabidiol, and THC.
This approach, which goes beyond the more common indications of cannabinoids, demonstrates the company's vision of the therapeutic potential of the different molecules present in cannabis. Jorge emphasizes that cannabis medicine is still in its embryonic phase, and the development of new products requires "strong investments in R&D and innovation."
Medical Education as a Key Point for Innovation
For Eduardo Jorge, innovation is directly related to the continuing education of healthcare professionals. He emphasizes the importance of intense engagement with the medical community to disseminate updated scientific information about cannabinoids. "Medical visits are the initial step in all of this, where we bring new materials daily, always grounded in scientific literature. There are more than 20,000 visits/year," reveals the CEO.
The company also promotes a series of activities to strengthen its relationship with doctors, such as monthly journal clubs, webinars, podcasts, symposiums, and article publications. According to Jorge, these initiatives aim to "bring the latest in literature about cannabinoids to the medical community." With these actions, Health Meds projects to have reached over 3,000 doctors in its continuing education events by the end of 2024.
Portfolio Expansion and Quality in Drug Development
With a planned 25% increase in R&D investments over the coming years, Health Meds will focus its research on areas such as oncology, rheumatology, chronic pain, insomnia, and anxiety. The goal is to expand the product portfolio and explore the full therapeutic potential of cannabis molecules. "We believe that cannabinoid medicine is still in its embryonic stage, and its different molecules and indications will be widely explored and developed in the coming decades," states Eduardo Jorge.
To maintain and improve the patient adherence rate to its products, which currently exceeds 80%, the company follows strict quality standards. "Health Meds was born following compliance and quality control of the classic pharmaceutical industry," highlights the CEO.
Future Vision in a Competitive Market
The company's strategic vision points to a cannabinoid market that transcends current indications, such as epilepsy and pain. The entrepreneur explains that there are two cannabinoid-based products registered, "they are Epidiolex and Sativex, which only explore cannabidiol and THC and have restricted indications, such as rare syndromes related to epilepsy and pain and spasticity in multiple sclerosis." He goes on to explain that "the endocannabinoid system is the main system that controls homeostasis in the human body, and the cannabis plant has over 100 phytocannabinoids present in it, different from cannabidiol and THC, which bind to receptors of the endocannabinoid system." The company plans to work towards the evolution of local regulation and scientific development. "We believe that the therapeutic potential of these molecules goes far beyond epilepsy and pain, but this depends on strong investments in R&D and innovation, which are the foundation of Health Meds' strategy," concludes Eduardo Jorge.
