Leonel Radde debuts in the assembly with cannabis project
The purpose of the PL is to encourage research and distribution by SUS of cannabis-based medications in Rio Grande do Sul

On his first day as a state deputy, Leonel Radde (PT) filed four Bills in the Legislative Assembly. One of them refers to the medicinal use of cannabis, with the encouragement of research and distribution of plant-based medications by SUS in Rio Grande do Sul.
Derivatives of the plant have been widely used, especially cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in the treatment of various pathologies such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and autism.
Other Bills, as they provide for the research and distribution of cannabis medications by the Unified Health System (SUS), have been approved in some Brazilian states such as São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Pernambuco, Paraná, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, and Alagoas. Meanwhile, Mato Grosso do Sul, Tocantins, Ceará, Sergipe, Roraima, Piauí, and Maranhão await processing or a decision from the state government.
According to Radde, who has been following this agenda for quite some time and has been in conversation with associations and entities dealing with the issue, as well as with the families of patients, children, adolescents, or adult users of these products:
“I believe we cannot tolerate prejudice delaying the state's action any further in assisting people whose lives have been demonstrably positively impacted by the use of marijuana-derived medications,” he emphasized.
