Limeira City Hall announced that it will invest $1,466,550.00 in hiring the company Prati Donaduzzi and Cia LTDA. The decision, published in the Official Journal of the Municipality on Friday, January 12, aims to supply cannabis-based products. The executive decided to make the purchase after numerous lawsuits filed against the municipal administration to ensure access to cannabis-based treatments.

Since 2015, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has authorized the importation of cannabis-based products, meeting a growing demand from patients with conditions such as autism, rare syndromes, Parkinson's, epilepsy, and Alzheimer's, among other pathologies. During this period, Anvisa has approved over 30 cannabis-derived products.

Facing political and ideological obstacles that hinder the advancement of cannabis cultivation and industry in Brazil, the importation of these products becomes a necessity, resulting in high costs. On average, monthly treatment with cannabis-based medications ranges from $600 to $1,500 per patient, depending on the prescribed dosage.

Limeira City Hall's initiative aims to meet the medical needs of the population, especially those who rely on these specific treatments to improve their quality of life. With the hiring of Prati Donduzzi and Cia LTDA, the municipal administration seeks to provide an effective and affordable solution for patients, avoiding families having to resort to the courts to obtain these medications through the Unified Health System (SUS).

The decision reflects the commitment of Limeira City Hall to promote the well-being of its citizens, recognizing the importance of ensuring access to alternative treatments to improve the quality of life of those who depend on these therapeutic options.
