The live, which will air tomorrow (25), at 7 pm, on our Instagram channel (@sechat_oficial) will feature the participation of State Deputy Caio França, author of the bill that aims to increase accessibility to cannabis-derived medications in the SUS in the state of São Paulo.
In 2019, the lawmaker created Bill 1180/2019, which establishes the free supply of cannabis-derived medications in the Unified Health System of the state and aims to assist those individuals who do not have the financial means - given the high costs of these medications in pharmacies - to maintain treatment with cannabinoids.
Moreover, the bill is one of the main topics that will be addressed in tomorrow's broadcast, as, two years ago, Caio was one of the pioneers in addressing the issue. For the Deputy, "although humanity has coexisted with Cannabis sativa (scientific name of marijuana) for millennia and hundreds of studies on its properties have already been published, the subject remains a taboo." Therefore, the importance and approval of this project are necessary for those who depend on this therapy.
Currently, the project awaits plenary approval.
In addition to this topic, the lawmaker will also address various other subjects, such as the acceptance of the agenda by political colleagues, his relationship with cannabis, how many people can benefit if the bill is approved, and what paths the project will still take until its final decision.
For those who do not yet know him, Caio França, a native of the city of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, is a lawyer graduated from the Catholic University of the city (Unisantos). Following in the footsteps of his father, Márcio França, also a lawyer and governor of the state between 2018 and 2019, Caio entered public life at a very young age, at just 20. In 2008, he was elected the most voted councilor in the history of São Vicente, on the coast of São Paulo, with 8,097 votes, standing out with projects such as the implementation of chess in public schools, creation of the "Green Seal" against dengue, implementation of the "Ecocycle" (bicycles that collect recyclable waste), among others.
In 2014, he was elected state deputy, establishing himself as the youngest parliamentarian in the São Paulo State Legislative Assembly and the most voted from his party (PSB). After his reelection in 2018, he appeared as president of the Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development, having been elected unanimously in the house.
The Sechat Live will be presented by the neurosurgeon Dr. Pedro Pierro, who is Scientific Managing Partner of the portal. He has been working with medical cannabis for over seven years, having been one of the first prescribing doctors of the therapy in Brazil. In addition to practical experience on the subject, Pedro Pierro has participated in numerous congresses and courses in Brazil and abroad, including activities with the Israeli researcher considered the "father of medical cannabis," Raphael Mechoulam.
