Luciano Szafir, a 55-year-old actor and presenter, revealed in a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday (26) that he has been using cannabis for medicinal purposes for about a month. An advocate of the plant, the father of Sasha Meneghel has been following research in the field for over 10 years.
After testing positive for Covid-19 for the third time between 2021 and 2022, Szafir needed to be hospitalized due to a pulmonary embolism that affected 84% of his lung. Two years after the 145 days of back and forth to the hospital, the actor is battling the sequelae caused by the episode.
“As soon as I got out, I went to doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and needed to take antidepressants. I have already stopped taking those. What I couldn't stop were the two prescription drugs for sleep. After starting with cannabis, I have already stopped one medication and greatly reduced the dose of the others,” reports Xuxa's ex-husband.
During his speech, Szafir also highlights the medicinal properties of marijuana, “well known for treating Alzheimer's, autism, Parkinson's, and other diseases” and exposes its multiple possibilities: “there are also creams, shampoos. There are over 1,800 products available,” according to the actor's statements.
“It's a very controversial subject. Some people say that cannabis is a drug. If you consider medicine a drug, then it is a drug,” Szafir pointed out.
