Medical cannabis regulation should prioritize patient access, executive argues
Ana Gabriela Batista demands, during industry congress, guidelines that facilitate treatments and ensure legal certainty
The future of the medical cannabis market was at the center of discussions during the 4th edition of the Brazilian Congress of the category, which in 2026 returns in its 5th edition to be held at the Transamerica Expo Center, in the South Zone of São Paulo. Ana Gabriela Batista, CEO of Tegra Pharma, was present at the last event and highlighted the fundamental role of the meeting.
According to the executive, the event is essential for education and the maturation of the ecosystem in the country. She emphasized the evolution of the congress as a strategic hub for disseminating knowledge about medical cannabis.
"This event is very important for information, for people to learn about this cannabis ecosystem. Tegra has been participating for a few years and each year is much more aggregating, for people and for us," said Ana Gabriela.
Regulatory scenario of medical cannabis
The sector is at a decisive moment, with Anvisa and the Judiciary discussing new guidelines for cultivation and commercialization. These movements boost the financial projections of the medical cannabis market, estimated at almost R$ 1 billion.
For the CEO, the scenario is optimistic but requires caution. She argues that the new rules should have a clear and humanized focus. The main objective should be to ensure the continuity of treatment for thousands of Brazilians who depend on medical cannabis.
"We believe that this market tends to evolve. We are in a regulatory environment that needs to give a boost. What is the sole objective? It is to facilitate patient access. The regulatory framework must come to facilitate access," defended Ana Gabriela.

In addition to macroeconomic and regulatory issues, the executive celebrated the opportunity for direct contact with end users during the event. Proximity to those who use the products is seen as a differential.
According to her, the exchange of experiences with patients and healthcare professionals who prescribe medical cannabis is vital. This contact allows the company to continue innovating and meeting the real needs of those seeking quality of life.
5th Edition confirmed for 2026
Consolidated as the main scientific and professional meeting of the sector in Latin America, the event organization confirmed the realization of the 5th edition of the Brazilian Congress of Medical Cannabis (CBCM). The event will take place between May 21 and 23, 2026, at the Transamerica Expo Center, in São Paulo.
The program will be developed by a Scientific Committee composed of national and international references. The goal is to ensure technical rigor for an audience made up of doctors, researchers, professionals in the hemp agribusiness, and representatives of the public sector.
