Next Thursday (05), at 10 am, the Medicinal Cannabis and Industrial Hemp Parliamentary Front will hold the last meeting of 2024 at the Dom Pedro I Plenary, at the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp). On this occasion, the eight winning projects of the 2nd parliamentary amendments tender will be announced, as defined by the Front's Deliberative Council.
State deputies Caio França and Eduardo Suplicy, coordinator and vice-coordinator of the Front, allocated R$ 1 million from the 2025 individual mandatory amendments budget to finance the initiatives. Each parliamentarian contributed with R$ 500,000, encouraging projects covering medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp.
Projects selected by universities and third sector entities
Out of the over 30 submitted projects, half were submitted by public universities such as Unicamp, Unesp, and Unifesp, while the rest came from third sector organizations, municipalities, and state institutions. The requested amounts ranged from R$ 50,000 to R$ 500,000, with proposals covering the production of informational materials, clinical studies, conferences, and the development of technologies related to medicinal cannabis.
Among the project themes, studies on chronic pain, online training courses, evaluations of cannabis use in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and the creation of digital platforms with data on therapeutic responses stand out.
Legislative advances and national impact
Deputy Caio França celebrated the advances made in 2024, such as the inclusion of cannabis in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia and the decision of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) allowing the cultivation of hemp for medicinal, pharmaceutical, and industrial purposes. “State law 17,618/23 was fundamental in driving these changes. The discussions held in the Parliamentary Front meetings served as a guide in the selection of projects,” highlighted França.
How to follow the announcement
The hearing will be broadcast live on the Rede Alesp YouTube channel, and the results will be available on the official website of the Parliamentary Front (www.fpcannabis.com.br).
