Launched in 2017 by Symbiotic Genetics co-founders Michael and Vince, Mimosa quickly gained space among consumers and cultivators. Resulting from the cross between Clementine and Purple Punch, the variety was developed to offer a sweet citrus terpene profile and excellent quality for hash production, rising in the market.
"We wanted not only to have the strong flavor and smell associated with citrus varieties, but also something commercially viable from the producer's point of view," said Michael in an interview with GreenState.
The development process
The creation of Mimosa involved a rigorous selection process. With the support of the Jungle Boys team, the creators tested different phenotypes before launching the variety on the market. The goal was to ensure that the strain thrived in various cultivation methods, from indoor environments to greenhouses.
Vince highlighted the ease of cultivating Mimosa: "It stands out in any environment and is one of our favorite plants to grow and reproduce."
High demand and appreciation
When Mimosa seeds became available, the demand was intense. Only 400 packs were released, generating lines at specialized stores and even auctions, where prices ranged from $1,500 to $2,000 per pack.
The Mimosa phenotype brought significant improvements over the Clementine parent, providing robustness, adaptability, and a striking citrus aroma. The consumption experience stands out for its persistent orange flavor combined with skunk and tropical fruit notes.
The legacy of Mimosa
Over the years, Mimosa has given rise to new popular varieties, such as Crystallized Orange (Zkittlez x Mimosa) and Ginger Candies (Kush Mints x Mimosa). The strain's impact remains strong, being a constant presence on dispensary menus.
With its distinctive profile and market resilience, Mimosa reinforces its position as one of the most iconic varieties of modern cannabis.
