New law in Barretos ensures regulation and use of Medicinal Cannabis in the public healthcare system
The new law provides for medical training, patient regulation, and guarantee of access to cannabis-derived products in the municipal health system

The City Hall of the Tourist Resort of Barretos (SP) published the Municipal Policy on Medicinal Cannabis Products. Among the objectives are to train qualified medical professionals for prescribing Medicinal Cannabis products and to select qualified medical professionals for integration into the Municipal Health System.
Law No. 7,195, dated August 21, 2025, lists the diseases provided for in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) that may require the use of cannabidiol-based medications, in combination with other cannabinoid substances.
The new policy provides for the implementation of a system for regulating and monitoring treated patients, as well as the constant updating of medical-scientific information on the use of medicinal cannabis. This process will be carried out through lectures, forums, symposiums, training courses, and other actions that strengthen knowledge among healthcare professionals.
According to the City Hall, the measure aims to align the use of cannabis derivatives with the existing federal regulation and meet the population's demand, focusing on the effectiveness, safety, and quality of the treatments offered.
“Upon medical diagnosis and prescription justifying the dispensing of Cannabidiol (CBD), the right to acquire the product, legally, paid or free of charge, of national origin or by importation, formulated based on industrialized plant-derived and technically elaborated derivative, complying with all regulations developed by ANVISA - National Health Surveillance Agency,” highlights the legislation, specifying details about the CBD to be acquired.
