Porto Seguro City Council approves distribution of cannabis in the Unified Health System (SUS)
The councilors unanimously approved the Bill in the first vote; the text defines the use of derivatives of the plant for therapeutic purposes
Unanimously, the councilors of Porto Seguro approved, in the first vote, Bill No. 084/2023, which establishes the Municipal Policy for the use of cannabis for therapeutic purposes.
The approved Bill on Thursday (9) proposes the free distribution of prescribed medications based on the plant, containing the substances Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in the municipal public health units and those affiliated with the Unified Health System - SUS, within the municipality of Porto Seguro.

Cannabis in SUS
According to Councilor Derival dos Santos Brito - Pepo da Van (PODE), the author of the proposal, “the Bill is of utmost importance for the population that needs the medication as it will facilitate access for patients.”
Councilor Vinícius Parracho (UB) shared the experience of his mother, who is a seamstress and suffered from pain due to repetitive handwork. The treatment with traditional medications was not as effective as the benefits that cannabidiol brought to her. “Certainly, the project will benefit many people,” he said.
