Salvador creates program to train doctors on medical cannabis in the public healthcare system
New legislation enacted by Mayor Bruno Reis establishes a permanent medical cannabis training program for municipal healthcare workers, focusing on prescription, clinical management, and the use of Anvisa-authorized products

Healthcare professional training is one of the pillars to expanding qualified access to medical cannabis. In Salvador, BA, this movement gained a new chapter with the enactment of Law No. 10.011/2026, which establishes the Municipal Permanent Training Program on Medical Cannabis for public healthcare system employees.
The measure was enacted by Mayor Bruno Reis (União Brasil) on July 10, 2026. The program provides training and technical updates for professionals regarding the prescription, clinical management, and therapeutic properties of cannabis-derived products.
Medical cannabis training in the public healthcare system
The initiative includes doctors, pharmacists, nurses, multidisciplinary teams, and other professionals working in primary care, specialized care, and home care in the capital of Bahia.
As established by the legislation, the program will exclusively use cannabis products authorized by the Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (Anvisa), in compliance with Collegiate Board Resolution (RDC) No. 327/2019, which regulates the manufacturing and commercialization of these products in Brazil.
