In times when mental health is a collective outcry, any alternative that can help individuals regain their center deserves to be explored responsibly. Disorders like anxiety, depression, and PTSD have been quietly growing, impacting millions of lives.
Seeking relief, many patients encounter the limitations of conventional treatments. This is where medicinal cannabis emerges: not as a panacea, but as a possibility. With a complex action in the human brain, its compounds interact with the endocannabinoid system, a biological link to our mood, sleep, memory, and emotions.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, rates of psychological distress have skyrocketed worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there was an increase of over 25% in cases of anxiety and depression in the first year of the health crisis.
In Brazil, data from Fiocruz and the Ministry of Health indicate that between 2020 and 2022 (pandemic years), mental health-related visits have increased significantly, especially among young people and women. Collective trauma, grief, isolation, and economic uncertainty have left deep marks.
In this scenario, interest in integrative therapies and alternative approaches, such as medicinal cannabis, is also growing, as it is being studied more closely to provide relief where conventional treatments may not always reach.
But this is a science that proceeds with caution. The effects vary from person to person, and the same plant that heals in one may cause discomfort in another. Therefore, researchers warn: personalization is necessary.
